Video Games Exclusives are a Fading Reality? |
Exclusive video game deals may become distant memory due to increasing development costs by software publishers. Rather than purchasing a Microsoft Xbox 360 to play popular titles like HALO 3, imagine having a choice to finally play it on a Sony Playstation 3 or a Nintendo Wii. This reality may be closer than you think, since Microsoft is breaking this long-time trend with their release of Final Fantasy XII for the Xbox360; a former Playstation exclusive for over 10 years.
Since higher costs and decreasing margins are becoming bigger obstacles for third-party developers, releasing their games across all systems makes financial sense. On the flipside, Microsoft and Sony may have to start developing more games on their own to make up the slack. Nintendo has been developing their own successful games since their first generation Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). They’ve continued this tradition with their ultra-successful Nintendo Wii.
In the end, the real winners of this saga are the gamers. Perhaps there’ll come a time when you don’t need to buy another videogame console just to play that exclusive game for a specific system.
Let the real games begin!!
